The first three letters of a Canadian Postal Code (known as the FSA - Forward Sortation Area) can be used to create CanTags that identify blog posts, pics and tweets down to the neighborhood level.
For example a tweet with an #M5EARTS CanTag indicates that it's about an arts event taking place or of interest to the St. Lawrence Market neighborhood in Toronto.

I think this is a great idea. Has anyone suggested the first 3 digits of phone number as an alternate way to position geo-tracking of tags?

Bill, phone area codes (along with airport codes) were brought up in the early discussions but were not pursued because just looking at an area code does not indicate what city it is for those living outside a given city who may not know what area codes or airport codes are being used there. So we went with the three letter city abbreviation instead.
